Zack Meyer – Football
Springstead – Senior
The courageous 6-foot-4, 165-pound Meyer returned to football this season after suffering a season-ending anterior cruciate knee injury (ACL) in 2016.
Zack corralled two passes for 19 yards in his final prep game during Saturday night’s 31-24 upset over the 5A-7 champion Hernando Leopards in Spring Hill. On an offense that garnered most of its yardage (85 percent of its nearly 3,300 yards) via the rush, Meyer is a fine downfield blocker. He also led the team in receptions with nine for 114 yards.
After his third season of football, he’ll looking to play basketball for a fourth campaign.
In the class room, Zack maintains a 2.9 unweighted and 2.97 weighted grade point average. Over the last nine weeks, he received straight A’s.
Outside the SHS campus, Meyer has volunteered for the past six years with his father’s team – the West Coast Soldiers – the west side equivalent of the Brooksville Ballers semi-pro football team for players 18 and up, based out of recreation center on Denton Avenue in Hudson. Zack assists in the concession stand and any cleanup during the season from January through April. He also helped in the collection of toys for the Toys For Tots program for the Gulfview Square Mall in New Port Richey.
