Jiovel Lantigua – Baseball
Springstead – Senior
Lantigua, the Hernando County’s leading hitter, went 0-for-2 plus a walk in the Eagles’ Class 6A, Region II quarterfinal loss at home to Citra-North Marion, 4-1.
Jiovel, who became the first Springstead player in 42 seasons to win the county’s Triple Crown – leading in hitting (.412), homeruns (13) and runs batted in (44) – played flawlessly at first base converting seven chances without a miscue.
The three-year letterman, a 2018 All-County selection, also excelled in the classroom behind a 3.8 unweighted and 4.1 weighted grade point average.
The stocky-built, 6-foot, 245-pounder, who is headed to play D-I at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, piled up his community service hours volunteering at rec league in Hudson with Coach Buzz.
