Kayla Dawson – Girls Weightlifting
Central – Junior
The multi-sport Dawson is splitting time this winter between playing goalie for the Lady Bears’ soccer team and weightlifting.
In the 18th Hernando County Championship Meet at Weeki Wachee, Dawson tied for second place at 154 pounds behind a 110-120—230-pound total. She lost the tiebreaker to officially finish third overall.
Besides competing in her first season under the bar and on the pitch, she’s played two seasons of basketball, played softball and participated in track and field for a total of six varsity sports for CHS.
Kayla, who maintains a 4.0 unweighted and 4.25 weighted grade point average, is also a member of the CHS Beta Club, a member of the prestigious National Honor Society as well serving in her third year with Navy ROTC.
Outside of campus, Lt. Dawson assists her mother – a paraprofessional at Moton Elementary – and her students in reading. She’s there once a week for five hours and also volunteers with the local 4H chapter mentoring students against poor behavior over the past two years.
Kayla has also volunteered picking up trash at the St. Francis Cabrini Church Festival since seventh grade.
