Navigators lost turnover battle, 3-0, having a punt blocked and suffering two pick sixes for touchdowns …Powell’s Allen Ho collected three passes for 102 yards and two TDs, Jayden Skipper rushed 3 times for game-high 75 yards and scored once on a pass (42 yds) and once on a reverse, Madden Buratczuk clicked on 8-of-15 passing for 196 yards and three TD passes … John Capel III (38 yards) and Ayden Ferguson (43 yards) returned INTs for touchdowns ….Placekicker Caiden Mellecker converted 5-of-6 point-afters.

NOTES – Powell scored two touchdowns within the game’s initial 30 seconds to lead 14-0 and never looked back … Offensively, eighth-grader Allan Ho scored a pair of touchdown runs … Seventh-grader Jayden Skipper scored three times, two on TD pass receptions and another on a punt return …. Carlos Rodriguez also scored on a screen pass … Parrott had three other touchdowns called back due to penalties … Powell, which suffered three turnovers (losing two fumbles and suffering an interception), forced nine Parrott fumbles … At the epicenter was defensive end Craig Corbett and defensive lineman Maximo Leaman … Down 33-0, Parrott’s Devin Williams snapped the shutout bid with a lengthy TD run.

Seven snaps later, Powell placekicker Caiden Mellecker attempted a 26-yard field as Explorer was attempting to call timeout to ice him … Mellecker missed the kick, but because the timeout was granted, there was a re-kick … On his second opportunity, he split the uprights for the game-winner, 15-14 Panthers.

NOTES – With a minute left in the game, trailing 6-0, Explorer sixth-grade running back P.J. Class was stripped of the football by linebacker Brady Nowlan. An alert Jordan Niesen recovered. On the next play, Challenger’s Chris Samuels scooted around right end for a 14-yard touchdown. With both sets of fans on their feet, Navigator placekicker Canyon Anderson converted the pressurized point-after boot to sneak Challenger past Explorer, 7-6 … The loss spoiled Class‘ game-high 23-carry, 146-yard effort…. Explorer lost the game despite winning the turnover battle, 5-1 … Explorer eighth-grade defender Murphy Anderson paced the visitors with two interceptions and a fumble recovery while seventh-grader Terrel Sherman and Caden Deese also recovered Navigator fumbles.
