COMMENTS: Multi-sport athlete, who also wrestled and played football for the Sharks … Second-year lifter … Repeat All-Hernando County performer … First-time Lifter of the Year … Initial Shark to be-ever voted by the area coaches as LOY … In 2018, Wellman competed in seven meets … Began the season on the right foot with four individual wins along his first five meets; finished second in his other meet … Garnered gold medals at Hernando duel, at Citrus High’s and Weeki Wachee’s tri-meets and 20th Hernando County Championship Meet … Placed runner-up at districts and third in regionals … Lost key head-to-head clashes against Citrus High’s Christian Solomon three times in three meetings … Missed qualifying as an at-large lifter for states by five pounds … Though he did not achieve his primary goal of attaining the FHSAA State Finals as a junior, nothing stood in his way a year later … In six meets (NOTE: NCT never reported any results from scheduled meets at Weeki Wachee nor Gorge Jenkins), Wellman returned home with four known wins (at Citrus, at Sunlake, 21st Hernando County Meet and the Class 1A, District 11 Meet) … At regionals at Zephyrhills High, Wellman improved to second place … In his first-ever FHSAA State Finals, he shook off any first-time jitters by returning home with a shiny fourth-place bronze medal … The medal served as the best finish by any of the eight Hernando County state qualifiers in either the Class 1A or 2A State Finals in Bay County … His best total for the season – 395-315710-pounds – broke the NCT school record for the most combined weight hoisted … In the process, Wellman defeated his old nemesis from Citrus, Christian Solmon, four times this season.

COMMENTS: Young and up and coming athlete … Has already competed in track and field and will be a fixture for the cross country program … First-year lifter … First-time All-County pick … In Year 1, Carbone competed in six meets and recorded three individual victories … He garnered first place at the Springstead dual, the Hernando tri-meet and 21st Hernando County Meet … After three straight wins, Carbone hit the wall during the Class 1A, District 11 Meet at Bushnell-South Sumter placing fifth … A week later in regionals, he finished fifth in East Pasco County … Led all Hernando County lifters at 119 pounds with a 175-135310-pound total.

COMMENTS: Third-year lifter … Three-time All-County selection … Adapted quickly ,,, In 2017, he competed in seven meets, and placed no less than third in any meet … Weaver tied Lifter of the Year Dominique Walker of Central, Hernando’s Josh Vonada and Colin Pagels and teammates Bradley Solari, Jordan Gilmore and Andro Segura in wins with four apiece … Debuted similar to Solari with three straight victories at Weeki Wachee, Springstead and River Ridge tri-meets … Win skein was snapped with a second-place effort at Springstead five-way meet … Returned to the winner’s circle by edging Central’s Darrin Davis in the tiebreaker during the 19th Hernando county Championship Meet … Didn’t stand on his laurels placing third in districts and runner-up in the regional: both at Wesley Chapel … Weaver’s 375-pound effort in regionals was five pounds better than every county lifter at 139 except for HHS sophomore Boston Tafelski’s 380 total … In 2018, Weaver tied teammate Zayne Barry, WWHS‘ Jake Pasmore and Hernando High‘s Colin Pagels with a county-leading five wins … Competed in seven meets … Set a new personal record by opening the season with a bang: five straight wins during the Weeki Wachee dual, Springstead tri-meet, Sunlake six-way and Hernando High tri-meet … Began the post-season with his fifth win during the 20th Hernando County Championship … That served as his second county title … In the 2A-6 Meet at Springstead, he dipped to third, but regrouped to place second in regionals at Sunlake … Hoisted a county-leading 425 pounds to lead all local 139-pounders …Continued to grow competing at 154 pounds in 2019 … Opened the season with back-to-back-to-back victories at Fivay tri-meet, Sunlake five-way, and Central duel … Lost to Lecanto’s Shane Thornton at Lecanto in Week 4, 535-525 … Bounced back in the 21st Hernando County Meet at home to grab the top of podium for a third straight season … Bested teammate Dylan Campani for the top slot, 520-440 … During the Class 2A, District 6 Meet at Lecanto, Thornton toppled Weaver for first place, 545-505 … Two weeks hence during the Class 2A, Region III Meet at Leesburg, Thornton again denied Weaver for first place, 575-510 … In his initial FHSAA State Finals at Bay County – where Lecanto’s Thornton won the gold medal with a 600-pound total – Weaver closed out his third season placing 11th overall … Weaver paced all county lifters with a 275-250525-pound total at 154 pounds.

COMMENTS: Thirdyear lifter … Repeat All-Hernando County selection … Broke in with seven meets in 2017 … Didn’t win a meet, but finished as high as second twice during the Weeki Wachee dual and Springstead tri-meet … In 2018, he competed in four meets and won twice … Opened the season placing runner-up at the Springstead tri-meet and placing third at the Sunlake six-way … Followed up with his first-ever victories at the Hernando tri-meet in Brooksville and the Hernando County Championship at Weeki Wachee … Had the misfortune of being on a cruise during districts, so he missed out on a chance to compete in the state series …Competed in a personal record eight meets in 2019 … Finished second or better seven times … Opened the season with back-to-back second-place efforts at Fivay tri-meet and Sunlake five-way … In Week 3, he broke through for first of two wins as a senior at the Central duel ,,, Lost the next meet – via a heartbreaking tiebreaker – at Lecanto … Regained his composure to repeat as Hernando County champion … Topped his closest rival, Logan Hickey of Central, 495-460 … During the Class 2A, District 6 Meet and Class 2A, Region III Meets, McClure finished second-best behind Land O’ Lakes’ Kevin Sacco … In his initial FHSAA State Finals at Arnold High, he placed 12th overall … Hoisted the highest total for any local at 169 pounds with a 305-240545-pound total.

COMMENTS: Full-time starter under the bar this year … Also played for the district championship baseball team in the outfield … Exceptional 2018 campaign … Debuted with five individual triumphs in five meets: at Fivay tri-meet, at the Sunlake five-way, at the Central duel, at the Lecanto duel, followed by 21st Hernando County Championship Meet at home in Spring Hill … Bested teammate Mike Brown for top county honors, 530-505 … Win skein was snapped during the Class 2A, District 6 Meet at Lecanto against Wesley Chapel’s Kris Chandler, 545-535 …At regionals in Lake County, Hopper placed third overall … In his initial FHSAA State Finals at Panama City Beach, he placed 11th overall … Led all local 183-pounders with a season-high 305-240545=pound total.

COMMENTS: Multi-sport athlete, who has lettered in football and track and field … Second-year lifter … Repeat All-Hernando County pick … Competed in seven meets in 2018 … Joined teammate Hunter Weaver, Weeki Wachee’s Jake Pasmore and Hernando High’s Colin Pagels with a county-leading five individual meet wins … In an outstanding campaign, Barry opened with back-to-back wins at 219 pounds during the Weeki Wachee dual and Springstead tri-meet … After placing runner-up – by five pounds – in the Sunlake six-way, Barry rolled out three more wins during the Hernando tri-meet and 20th Hernando County Championship and the Class 2A, District 6 Meet at Springstead … At the Class 2A, Region III Meet at Sunlake, Barry finished fourth … His 530-pound total at 199 served as the county’s best … Incredible 2019 season … For seven meets, Barry was the county’s finest lifter stringing together seven straight wins – all at 199 pounds … He captured the Fivay tri-meet, Sunlake five-way, Central and Lecanto duals prior to the crucial post-season … At the 21st Hernando County Meet, he claimed his second county crown, smothering his closest rival – teammate Robert Carroll – 560-430 … He tied a Springstead school record with his second district title at home, nipping teammate Adrian Cabrera, 565-550 … In regionals, he added regional champion to his resume at Leesburg edging Cabrera again, 575-565 … But in his first visit to the pressure-packed Class 2A FHSAA State Finals, Barry placed 11th overall … When the curtains cam down, he led all the local 199-pound lifters with a county-high 325-250575-pound total … If you judge athletes by consistency, Barry has competed in 15 prep meets and recorded 12 individual victories in two seasons (80 percent).

COMMENTS: Multi-sport athlete who also played football for four seasons … Despite a pair of ACL knee injuries, Torres named All-County in football in 2017 along the offensive line … Second season under the bar … Repeat All-County selection … In 2018, he competed in eight meets … Opened the season in impressive fashion with a win against Hernando … Finished second to Citrus High stud Will Remley for the next two meets, before notching his second win in a tri-meet at Weeki Wachee … In the Hernando County Championship, Torres bested his closest rival, teammate Willie Coffey, 290-265, for his third win of the season … Closed out the campaign placing second in districts, third in regionals and placing ninth in his inaugural FHSAA State Finals in Bay County … Totaled a personal-best and county-leading 605 pounds in the 44th Class 1A State Finals … Participated in six meets in 2019 … After finishing runner-up at 219 pounds at the Citrus tri-meet, he finished the same way at the Sunlake five-way … Carved out his second county crown at Springstead, topping SHS junior Adrian Cabrera, 595-550 … In the 1A-11 Meet at Bushnell, he finished runner-up at 238 pounds … In regionals, he placed third at Zephyrhills … In the 45th FHSAA 1A State Finals, he finished with a fine eighth-place effort … Torres managed to hoist the highest weight totals locally at both 219 pounds (370-230600) and at 238 pounds (375-255630).

COMMENTS: Multi-sport student/athlete … Played football and lifted weights for two seasons at Weeki Wachee … Transferred to Springstead prior to his junior year … Alternated between fullback and linebacker for Head Coach Mike Garofano in football … Competed in his third season under the bar, but first for the Eagles … Named All-County in weightlifting for the first time … In 2017, he competed in two meets for the Hornets placing fourth against Springstead and eighth in the district meet at 199 … In 2018, he competed in seven meets at 219 pounds … In his third meet, the Weeki Wachee tri-meet, he earned his first-ever individual victory … Closed out the season placing runner-up in the county meet, placing fifth in districts and sixth in regionals … Year 3 in 2019 began by winning at the Fivay tri-meet – the first of three wins for the Eagles … After placing third at the Sunlake five-way meet, he notched his second win in the Central dual meet … After placing third at Lecanto dual, Rahman earned his first county title downing his closest rival, Israel Fields of Hernando, 535-505 … Placed runner-up in the Class 2A, District 6 Meet at Lecanto before finishing third in regionals in Lake County … In his initial Class 2A FHSAA State Finals, Rahman placed 16th at 238 pounds.

COMMENTS: For the 11th time in 16 seasons, Coach Garofano guided the Eagles to the Hernando County Championship, topping Hernando, 71.0-59.0 … For his efforts, he was selected as Coach of the Year for the ninth time … Eagles finished 5-2-1 as Garofano improved to 81-22-3 lifetime (79 percent) … That stands as the county record for most career dual meet wins … Following the county meet, SHS placed third out of eight programs at districts at Lecanto and placed third out of 15 teams in the Class 2A, Region III Meet at Leesburg … F.W. Springstead tied the Hernando County record of six state qualifiers set by Hernando in 2004 by advancing to the 45th FHSAA Class 2A State Finals at Panama City Beach … Garofano, who has coached up two state champions, owns Hernando County records of 38 state qualifiers and 12 state pacers … This year’s six Eagle state qualifiers broke the old mark of five set by Jason Wetherington in 2002.
