2019 ALL-HERNANDO COUNTY BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM

Orien ADams

Orien Adams

Nature Coast Technical – Junior

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Adams was a two-year fixture for the Sharks … Repeat All-County selection … Finished as the county’s fifth-leading scorer in 2018-19 averaging 16.9 points per game … Tallied more points (525) than any local player … Outstanding glass cleaner, who served as a walking double-double … He paced the local circuit in rebounds per game (16.7) …Intimidated on defense ranking fourth in blocked shots (1.23) per game … Transferred to Lakeland-Kathleen during the summer.

QUOTE “Had a breakout season … Extremely versatile player … What sets him apart from others is finishing around the rim …He picks things up well …That’s a credit to him … After his sophomore year, he realized he needed to step up his game … Wasn’t just a rebounder any more … There’s no doubt, this was his team … He definitely left a legacy.”

– Nature Coast Technical’s David Pisarcik

Jeff Laing

“His athleticism was clearly head and shoulders above anyone around here …His ability to control the boards … both offensively and defensively allowed NCT to expand possessions to their success.”

– Ex-Hernando High skipper Jeff Laing

Matt McGarry

“Orien has been a handful since he got here … He rebounded well, ran well, and stretched the floor …He‘s gonna be a problem to contend with … The skies the limit with his ability.”

– Springstead’s Matt McGarry

Matt Zandecki

“Biggest asset is his rebounding … He’s three times the player he was when he got here … Now, he can run the floor and step out and hit threes … You can’t give him a chance to get hot … His game translates well everywhere … He’s a hard kid to game plan against because he’s expended his range … He was more than offensive rebounder.”

– Central’s Matt Zandecli

Jacob Batten – Forward

Hermamdo – Junior

Jacob Batten

Third year letterman … Initial All-County selection …Also played football … Returned to action after suffering a broken clavicle …In 27 games, he poured in a team-best 481 points, averaging 17.8 peg … He reached double figures 24 times, including a personal high of 27 markers versus Week Wace … Shot 62 percent from the charity stripe.

QUOTE “ We asked him to do a lo defensively … He worked out in all five positions during our 1-3-1 defense … He created a lot of chaos especially when he was on top … His strength? Is his ability to get close to the bucket for his shot … If he able to improve his inside shooting skills, he’ll be a complete player …Football has helped him pack on some muscle.”

_ Laing

QUOTE “He’s getting better and better …Football will help elevate his toughness … Last season, he took big steps forward nearly averaging a double-double per game … Had a game where he tore down 22 rebounds … He’s a guy we’re really gonna rely on … He’s played second fiddle … It’s time for him to take the next step … He could be a premier player for us … His classroom work has improved, too.”

– McGarry

QUOTE “He faced a lot of adversity … Got worn down … Has slowly improved his game … Type of player that leads by example … He took over in the game against Nature Coast … Is talented enough to play all five positions on defense … He’s got to work on his vertical game … He was to do more for us … Kind of kid that never misses a workout.”

– Zandecki

Rashaad Boyce – Forward

Central – Junior

QUOTE “This was really his first year of varsity … Played jayvee the year before …We asked to step up with that huge frame and he did … That’s not bad to average a double-double as a first-year varsity player … He’s a kid who never misses practice … He’s working on his ball handling skills … The sky is the limit with his ability … He’s already one of our main players … Baseball has helped balance his life … He’s had big games to build a foundation … I encourage kids to play multiple sports.“

– Zandecki

Robert Gomez – Guard

Nature Coast Technical – Senior

Robert Gomez

QUOTE “Enjoyed a great year… Really worked on his leadership … Took more of a vocal stance with the team …He’s taking the JUCO route for college … That will allow him to continue working on creating his shot, looking for open spaces … He is used to defending and going to the basket.”

QUOTE “Continues to close the gaps in his game … Had an outstanding season … Has one of the craziest motors … Shown flashes of the ability to close out contests … Needs to work on dribble drive and his pull up jumper … Getting to the basket is his game.”

– McGarry

David Pisarcik – Coach of the Year

Nature Coast Technical – 12th Year

David Pisarcik

Pisarcik helped guide NCT to county-best 24-7 overall … This was his ninth Coach of the Year honor … Led the Sharks to his 11th Hernando County title … Pushed NCT to its third-ever regional crown and third FHSAA State Finals appearance.

QUOTE “We worked hard as a team … We played well, precisely as the right time … When we lost to Crystal River (on the district final buzzer beater), we knew it would be hard to beat a good team four times … In the regional semi, we came out and competed well … Each of the guys stepped up for us …. The bottom line was we got to the Final Four … That’ s where Nature Coast is graded on …Our program is based on what we do in the playoffs … This was one of our best teams.”

– Pisarcik

QUOTE “Any time you make The Show that says something about the product … Nature Coast did not lose its composure when they had to play Crystal River in the regional semi.“

– Zandecki

QUOTE “NCT continues to be the model the other county coaches follow … Coach (Pisarcik) does it with a high level of class.”

– Laing

QUOTE “NCT got better and better … I didn’t he’d take that group of guys that far … It’s a credit to coach … His kids always seem ready to play.”
