Alexis Dross

COMMENTS: Has lettered in basketball and golf … Four-time All-Hernando County links selection … Debuted in 2015 ranking second in the county in nine-hole scoring average at 46.5 behind POY Skylar Muscianese … Finest round was a 42 twice; once at Oak Hills Golf Club vs. Springstead, the other during the pressure-packed Class 2A, Region V Tourney at Heritage Springs … Carded an 18-hole 49-49—98 in districts and followed with a solid 42-47—89 total in regionals. … As a sophomore, Dross lowered her average to 45.3 … Again she finished second in the circuit in scoring to Muscianese … Like Muscianese, her best nine-hole score was a 37 … Finished runner-up in the 2A-13 Tourney behind an 18-hole 92. Carded a 18-hole 95 in regionals and a 97-92—189 total in her first FHSAA State Finals placing in a tie for 55th. … Tremendous 2017 campaign, Dross led the local circuit in scoring, edging out Muscianese by a whisker, 42.0-42.1. …Finished runner-up in the 2A-13 Tourney at Silverthorn CC behind a 42-44—86 and tied for fourth in regionals at Hudson’s Meadow Oaks with a 38-44—82 total. … At states, Dross’ 82-96—178 total permitted her to finish 47th, out of 95 players …Stellar senior campaign in 2018 … Recorded the lowest nine-hole score in the county with a 35 against Central in her final match at Silverthorn … Demonstrated consistency finishing as the Sharks’ top player in all 10 matches they participated in … Led the county in scoring for a second straight campaign with a personal-best 40.2 nine-hole average … Following the regular season, Dross elevated her game capturing medalist honors – for the first time – in districts (41-37—78) and regionals (38-38—76) … In her third consecutive FHSAA State Finals, Dross finished 24th overall behind a 36-hole 83-79—162 total.

QUOTE: “Alexis really focused on her game. We knew she was gonna have a big season based solely on what she does in practice … She demonstrated day in and day out that she’s one of the best players to ever come from Hernando County … As her game matured, she flourished. That 76 in districts propelled us to a district championship. That score reflected her efforts and how solid the team was… Her game? She’s happy where’s she at, but she has the potential for so much better. She’s got so many shots in her bag; it’s amazing. … I agree that she can play collegiately. She sometimes didn’t play as well as she hoped – like at states, but she has collegiate ability. … Her mental toughness separates her from others … She helped take Nature Coast to places we haven’t been before. In a word, she’s a leader. When she’s gone, I’m gonna miss her ability and her type of talent … I feel fortunate to have coached two of the best female golfers this county has ever seen in Skylar and Alexis … We’ve been playing on the last day of golf season for three straight years; that’s a testament to what she’s done here.”

NCT’s Pisarcik

Sarah Bell

“Throughout the season, she was so consistent. In the post-season, she elevated her game to the top level. Players like Alexis (Dross) pushed players like Kayleigh (Marquart). What stood out was her focus. Just look at her technique and her swing.”

Springstead’s Sarah Bell

“Dross has worked hard for everything … She’s been very helpful and great with our girls. Her attitude is very good.”

Hernando’s Casey Ellis

Alexa Dono

Nature Coast Technical – Senior

Alexa Dono

COMMENTS: Fourth-year letterman … Repeat All-County pick … Has sliced her nine-hole stroke average each season at the varsity level. … As a freshman, she ranked fifth on her team scoring average at 57.4 strokes per nine holes … A year later, she cut almost 2½ strokes to again finish fifth on her team at 55.0. … In 2017, Dono again improved shaving nearly two strokes per event to finish at 53.2, finishing fourth on the team and tied for fifth-best in the county … In 2018, Dono averaged a career-best 49.5 strokes per nine holes … She finished ranked second overall in the county in scoring average … Opened the season with a seasonal-best 42 at GlenLakes and duplicated it at Silverthorn against Central … Demonstrated her consistency placing second on the team in districts (45-54—99), regionals (52-46—98) and states (98-108—206) … She placed 72nd overall in the FHSAA State Finals … This was her third trip to the state’s elite meet in Lake County.

QUOTE: “Alexa took on a much bigger role this year going from playing No. 4 to No. 2 …She knew if she didn’t play well, we wouldn’t advance … She went out and upped her ability. We have not seen her best game yet. She helped catapult us to states. Without her, we’re not the same team … She and Alexis (Dross) have a lot of ability on the course. I think there’s a school that can tap her potential at the next level … She has that rare ability to make shots … We‘re looking for some really good golfers next year in order to repeat … We need players like Alexa, who were willing to put in the work.”

Annabelle Bennett

COMMENTS: Second-year varsity letterman … First-time all-county pick … Broke in as a freshman in 2017 ranking fifth on her team in scoring average at 56.5 strokes per nine holes ,,, A year later, ranked as the third-best player in the county averaging 51.8 shots … Carded a personal-best 49 during the dual meet against Central at Silverthorn G&CC … In the post-season was a model of consistency placing third-best on her team in districts and regionals (51-50—101 in 18 holes) and states (102-108—210 across 36 holes).

QUOTE: “I think Annabelle has the game to take over … She’s a hard worker. She’ll definitely put the time in … I think she’ll step up next year … She’s definitely capable of doing it. She was one of our top three players all season. Sometimes we forget how valuable she was this season. Next year is her time to take over.”

NCT’s David Pisarcik

Ali Shenefield

QUOTE: “Really stepped up this year … Was our No. 1 player … Has a knack for playing well in pressure situations … She finds different ways to cope with tough spots … Her strength is her competitiveness – she gets that from softball … She does everything at 100 percent … Regardless of what she’s doing, she’s going out there to be the best she can be… Great student-athlete … Signed with Rollins College.

Hernando’s Casey Ellis

Hayleigh Marquart

Springstead – Junior

Kayleigh Marquart

COMMENTS: Three-year letter winner … First-time All-County choice … Has come a long way … As a freshman in 2016, played in 10 matches and averaged 66.1 strokes – ranking third on the team … In 2017, she reduced her averaged to 62.3, but remained the Lady Eagles’ third best player … In 2018, participated in a career high 12 matches and sliced her nine-hole average to 56.0 … That average not only led SHS, but ranked fourth among Hernando County players …. Carded a season-low 52 during a tri-match against Central and Hernando at Oak Hills GC … Fired a team-low 59-54—113 total at the 2A-13 Tournament at Meadow Oaks to qualify for regionals … At Zephyrhills’ Silverado G&CC, she closed out with a team low 53-54—107 total.

QUOTE: “She wants to be a perfectionist and stand out … She was dedicated to improving her game … What stood out? Her drive to improve; was always looking to fix her game.”

SHS’ Sarah Bell

Coach of the Year David Pisarcik

Nature Coast Technical – 4th Year

David Pisarcik

COMMENTS: Four-peat as Hernando County’s Coach of the Year … Led the Lady Sharks to a perfect 6-1 regular season … Raised his career dual meet record to 34-1 (97 percent)… Seasonal highlights include guiding NCT to its school record fifth straight district title Hudson’s Meadow Oaks G&CC and returning home with the Class 2A, Region V runner-up trophy from Zephyrhills’ Silverado G&CC. … The Brooksville linksters – the lone Hernando County representative – closed out the season placing 15th out of 16 teams in the 70th FHSAA State Finals in Lake County.

QUOTE: “Receiving Coach of the Year means I’ve had some talent. I’m thankful for the girls who have played for me. They set a standard for others in the future to follow … The work ethic was there. These girls, like the others before them, put in the work. I’m fortunate that the kids have bought in. Graduation losses at this level are part of the process. I feel fortunate to have been able to put out such a good product for four years. I’ve told the three girls that are expected back year that we’re not lowering our expectations; they’d better put the work in during the off-season.”

Pisarcik

Casey Ellis

QUOTE: “Dave has developed a good, strong team. You can see the work he’s put in with his girls.”

Springstead’s Bell

QUOTE: “Took a great group of girls back to states this year … That’s even with a couple new girls … He’s had legit golfers since he’s been coaching. That makes a big difference, especially during the playoffs.”
