QUOTE: “Had the privilege of watching her work toward her goals … Courtney was easily the most focused lifter on our team … Her greatest asset? By far, it’s her work ethic … She was always the first in the weight room and the last to leave … She never missed a workout … She and Izzy, her sister, are clones in that aspect … We’re gonna miss her leadership … She was vocal … She was the one that rallied the other girls … She’s the type of competitor that never took anything for granted in the weight room … I couldn’t agree more with her selection of Lifter of the Year.”

COMMENTS: First-year weightlifter … Named All-County for the first time … Tremendous debut … Opened the season winning at Springstead dual, Central tri-meet and Weeki Wachee dual … In her fourth meet, she placed fourth in the 9th Disparti Invitational at River Ridge … Bounced back from the loss to hammer NCT’s Madison Mookdasanit in the Hernando County Meet, 300-225 … That served as her fourth-ever win … Due to sore shoulder, she sat out the River Ridge dual … Came back and placed runner-up at regionals at Punta Gorda-Charlotte … In her initial Class 2A FHSAA State Finals, she placed 10th overall … Led all the county lifters with a 175-135310-pound total at 139 pounds.

QUOTE: “I tried to get her out (for weightlifting) prior to her senior year … Saw her in PE class and she was naturally strong … Her power cleans never got to where she needed them to be … Still had a great season … She broke the school’s bench record at 139 … We didn’t really know what to expect from her at states … We had to work to calm her nerves … It’s scary on how good Nicole would have been if she would’ve lifted just one more season … She’s a very quiet person ,,, But always did what she needed … Really her bench did all her talking for her.”

Nature Coast Technical – Senior

Amanda Waddell

COMMENTS: Third-year weightlifter … Initial All-Hernando County pick … In 2016-17, Waddell competed in seven meets without a win … She did finish second three times … High-water mark was placing fourth in the county and fifth in regionals before finishing 10th in regionals … In Year 2, once more she competed in seven meets … Once more she returned home without a win, mostly losing to teammate Amanda Randazzo … Finished as high as second four times … In the post-season, she climbed to third in the county and second in districts before scratching out in regionals … Waddell was the team’s most improved lifter after eight meets this past season … After never capturing first place, she turned that around with eight incredible wins in eight meets … Seasonal highlights included capturing her initial county and district titles … At the Class 1A, Region V Meet at Leesburg, she finished fifth … She missed earning an at-large berth to states by five agonizing pounds … Hoisted a county-best 135-140275-pound total at 154 pounds.

QUOTE: “Plain and simple, Amanda was upset when she didn’t make states … They key is having your best day in regionals … She didn’t match her PR (personal record) and it hurt her … She was fun to have around … She was a load mouth … Every team needs someone like her … She’s the one that would get everyone fired up … We’re gonna miss her vocal chords … When she’s in the room, everybody knows it.”

169 – Isabella “Izzy” Traudt

Nature Coast Technical – Junior

Isabella Traudt

COMMENTS: Third-year lifter … First-time All-Hernando County selection … As a freshman in 2016-17, the fourth Traudt sister to compete for NCT participated in four meets … She debuted with back-to-back second-place efforts, but never won in Year 1 … She opened Year 2 with a second-place finish before reeling off the first three wins of her prep career – all on the road – at Citrus High, at Hernando and at Crystal River … In her initial Hernando County meet she placed runner-up and finished second in districts … She did not get out of regionals … This season began with back-to-back-to-back second-place efforts – losing narrowly each time to NCT teammate Arika Smith … In her fourth meet at Weeki Wachee, “Izzy” as her teammates call her pushed through for her initial triumph … She won again at home against Central before edging Smith for the first time during the Hernando tri-meet … Bolstered with confidence, Traudt topped Smith during the 18th Hernando County Championship Meet and the 1A-10 Meet at Weeki Wachee … She extended her longest-ever win skein to six wins in a row capturing regionals for the first time at Leesburg … In her first FHSAA State Finals, she finished 17th overall … Hoisted a county-best 140-155—295-pound total at 169 pounds.

QUOTE: “Of all the girls, Izzy understood walking into Leesburg that she had to win regionals to advance to states … That weight class was loaded … I thought she prepared well; she had a great showing … Unfortunately, when she went to states, her weight class and heavyweight were cut throat … As a senior, I’d like to see her pick up the pieces in the leadership department … As coaches we can only do so much; we need her help with that leadership.”

– Story

183 – Brianna Mobley

Hernando – Junior

Brianna Mobley

COMMENTS: Second-year lifter … Has made great strides …Named All-County for the first time … Competed in three meets as a sophomore in 2017-18 … Finished as high as fourth place twice … In her initial Hernando County Meet, she placed fifth overall … In Year 2, she tripled her participation, competing in a personal record nine meets … In her second meet of the season at home against Crystal River, Mobley turned in his first individual victory … She improved to third place in the county meet before winning a tri-meet at home against Bishop McLaughlin and South Sumter … Concluded the season placing second in districts, third in regionals and eighth at states in Bay County … When she competed at the FHSAA State Finals, she became the third member of her immediate family (including her state championship father Dwayne and four-time state qualifier sister Janea) to compete in the state’s elite weightlifting competition.

QUOTE: “Her stock is rising … She’s made great strides … Her greatest asset might be her DNA …She’s shy, but she’s a very competitive person … With Bree, she’s the foundation going forward … Our job is to recruit the hallways and get more girls that weigh at least 183 pounds or more … We’ve got to add depth to compete with Nature Coast … I’ll guarantee you that Bree will be lifting over the summer – that’s the next big step to being competitive – overcoming that hurdle is the blueprint toward success.”

199 – Arieyanna Johnson

Nature Coast Technical – Senior

Arieyanna Johnson

COMMENTS: Fourth-year letter winner … Initial All-County selection … Extremely eloquent … Certainly paid her dues en route to success … As a freshman in 2015-16, Johnson alternated between the 183-199-pound weight divisions … She competed in seven meets, but never won … In her fifth meet at home against Citrus High, she placed as high as runner-up … Closed out Year 1 placing fifth in county meet, fourth in regionals and ninth at regionals … In Year 2, Johnson participated in seven meets, but failed to earn a gold medal … Despite lifting at 183 pounds the entire season, she finished as high as second three times … In the post-season, she placed runner-up in the county meet, third in districts and improved to sixth in regionals … During 2017-18, Johnson opened her third season winning the dual meet against always-tough Lecanto … In her fourth meet at Crystal River, she claimed her elusive second victory … Demonstrating stead improvement, Johnson placed runner-up in county, second in districts, fourth in regionals and placed 12th in her initial FHSAA State Finals … Blossomed in her fourth season under the bar … Opened Year 4 on a tear … Johnson strung together a personal record eight wins in eight meets – all at 199 pounds … Seasonal highlights included winning the 18th Hernando County Championship Meet for the first time along with her initial district title at Weeki Wachee … The win skein ended in regionals – barely – when Johnson lost to Alissa Alston of Tavares, 320-315 … In her final prep meet during her second FHSAA State Finals, she placed 11th at Arnold High … She hoisted the county’s highest total at 199 pounds (combined 170-145315 pound total) … Concluded her prep career with 31 meets … Collected 10 gold medals.

Jouie Miller Photo by JOE DiCRISTOFALO

COMMENTS: Rare four-year letterman in weightlifting and track and field … Along the oval, she reached the FHSAA State Finals in track three times and placed twice (2016, 2019) … Four-time All-Hernando County weightlifting selection … She is the only other Shark to be named a four-time weightlifting all-star besides Ashley Gentz (2014-17) … In recapping an illustrious prep career, Miller scratched out once as a freshman in nine meets (Citrus) … Claimed three wins (Weeki Wachee and Hernando dual meets and the Hernando County Championship at Weeki Wachee) … Lost a tie-breaker for first place at Lecanto and placed runner-up at 1A-10. … After placing third in regionals, Miller placed seventh in her initial FHSAA State Finals … There was no hint of a sophomore jinx in 2016-17 … Miller was sensational …Competed in eight meets and won the first seven: Lecanto dual, Hernando and Springstead tri-meets, Citrus dual, Hernando County Championship, Class 1A, District 10 Meet and Class 1A, Region V Meet … In her second state finals in weightlifting, Fort White sophomore Casey Carter stood tied with Miller with a 420-pound total … Miller had a chance to win, but misfired on her final clean and jerk attempt … With both lifters tied, Carter who weighed in 27 pounds less was awarded the precious state gold medal and Miller settled on silver … Jouie was a model of consistency in 2017-18 … For a second straight season, she opened the campaign with seven wins in a row … Miller claimed the top of the podium versus Lecanto, at the Hernando tri-meet, two weeks later at the HHS quad meet, and at the Crystal River dual … In the post-season, Miller captured the Hernando County crown for the third time, and district and regional gold medals for the second time … In her third state meet, she placed runner-up for the second straight season … Brilliant senior campaign … Strung together a county record nine wins to open Year 4: Winning at the Lecanto dual, Citrus and Bishop McLaughlin duals at home, at Weeki Wachee, versus Central at home and the tri-meet at Hernando, at the 18th Hernando County Championship Meet, 1A-10 Meet at Weeki Wachee and 1A-V Meet at Leesburg … The Hernando County crown was her fourth straight duplicating the Hernando County record set last winter by Hernando High’s Janea Mobley … The three district titles and three regional times also stand as the county gold standard for girls weightlifting … The nine straight wins tied NCT’s Samantha Traudt’s string between two seasons (2016-17) … Jouie’s win skein ended in a loaded heavyweight division during the Class 1A FHSAA State Finals at Arnold High in Panama City Beach … She finished sixth overall … Miller concluded her Shark career with an array of county records … She departs with a county record 35 meets, county record 26 career wins, and leaves as the career winning percentage leader (74 percent) … She tied Springstead’s Christine Alberts (2004-07) with a county record four state finals appearances … Tied the county record by placing three times at states along with Ashley Gentz (2015-17) … Holds the county record with the highest female bench press (230), highest clean-and-jerk total (205), highest combined total (435 pounds).

QUOTE: “Just a rare talent … To me, to be part of her career was special … She was a great security blanket for us for years … It was more like a show … I’m glad I got to watch the show … I may never see someone like her again … Her fourth state meet was just the tip of the iceberg … She’s just scratching the surface of her overall abilities … I told her not to hang her head after placing sixth … That’s the first time, I’ve ever seen her cry.”

Nature Coast Technical – 3rd Year

Rudy Story

COMMENTS: Served as an assistant under former NCT skipper Sharon Elliott … Elliott was a six-time All-Hernando County Coach of the Year selection at Central and NCT before retiring from Hernando County following the 2015-16 school year … Under Story’s guidance, the Lady Sharks rolled up a perfect 7-0-0 dual meet season … In the post-season, Story’s troops notched its sixth Hernando County title in seven winters Returning to Weeki Wachee, the Sharks four-peated as district champions In the Class 1A, Region V pressure cooker, the Brooksville lifters achieved history returning home with the county’s first-ever regional title, edging host Leesburg, 54.0-46.0 NCT closed the season at the 16th FHSAA Class 1A State Finals in Panama City Beach placing in a tie for 19th place, out of 71 teams.

QUOTE: “My expectations about states were a little different … In my experience, you don’t just walk into states and dominate … It was about the girls being able to soak in the state experience … If we grabbed a trophy that would have been awesome, but taking states in was the biggest goal … What was so satisfying was hearing our program’s name among the best in the state … That’s when you realize you’re making a difference … We’re trying to build a presence in that building … I’m gonna miss those girls’ camaraderie and company … This was a special group. …I didn‘t have to stand watch over them to make sure they got their work in. They were highly self-motivated.”
